The checks behind the cite-met scan

The free scan fetches your homepage, your robots.txt, the http:// version of your homepage (when your site uses HTTPS) and your homepage again with an AI crawler's user agent. It also reads your llms.txt, your sitemap and up to three inner pages. Then it runs these 13 checks. 8 of them are scored, worth 10 points in all. The other 5 are reported for context and don't change your grade.

    Scan your site

    Core (5 points)

Whether your pages send their words in the HTML, over one HTTPS address.

    • Content in the HTML means your homepage's words arrive in the first response from your server, before any JavaScript runs.

    • Inner pages having their own content means each URL on your site returns its own text in the HTML, not a copy of the homepage shell.

    • HTTPS everywhere means your site loads over HTTPS and every plain http:// address redirects there.

    AEO (3 points)

Whether search and AI search crawlers may fetch your homepage, and whether it may be indexed and quoted.

    SEO (2 points)

Titles, descriptions, a canonical URL and a sitemap.

    • Titles and descriptions means every page has its own <title> and your homepage has a meta description.

    • A canonical URL is the link rel="canonical" tag that names the one address you want indexed for a page.

    • CM-203 Sitemap0.5 points

A sitemap is an XML file listing the pages you want crawled.

    Info (not scored)

Reported for context. These checks don't change your score.

    • AI training crawlers collect pages to train models; blocking them doesn't stop AI search crawlers from citing you.

    • Structured data is JSON-LD markup that describes your page in schema.org terms.

    • Firewall treatment of AI crawlers is whether your CDN or firewall answers an AI crawler differently from a normal visitor.

    • Social sharing tags are the Open Graph meta tags (og:title, og:description, og:image) that shape link previews.

    • CM-905 llms.txtnot scored

llms.txt is a proposed Markdown file at /llms.txt that summarises a site for language models.
